On a web site I frequent there is a member there who has a lot to offer in the way of awareness for models. She isn’t your typical “white knight” but someone who has first hand information about how the unexpected could happen and how it can be prevented. This video is one she produced that is objective and informative in the same manner. It isn’t to scare models away, nor is it something you can watch that’ll make you believe all photographers are the same.

It is a Sexual Assault Awareness video by Stephanie Stevick.

I’m in the middle of my week off. Prior to this, I tried to book some shoots and leave myself time to do a few things around the house as well. About 3 weeks ago I spoke to a girl who needed some pictures done outdoors. She is also a photographer. Needless to say, I knew this could work out pretty good.

I met Janelle at Starbucks, we loaded her things into my SUV and on we went. I had to go my the studio for a minute then we rode to a few places. She, as a photographer had already seen a few things around that caught her eye. So we made them work for us. She had her own ideas for the shoot. That did me favors. I broke out the new 5D Canon and put in the 70-200 f/4. I shot with that for the majority of the day. It worked really good. When I shot with the 50mm f/1.4, the bokeh was terrific. Moving from the 30D to the 5D probably shouldn’t have made as much of a difference as it did, but it seems that everything I have shot with it came straight out of camera with more depth than before and the white balance was spot on. Oddly enough, when I had sent the 30D in for service, they didn’t indicate anything was wrong with it. The image below had a basic, minor level adjustment and I played with skin tones just a bit. Otherwise, I’m a happy camper that it worked out as good as it did. I’ve got 2 shoots tomorrow 4/6 and did one last night, so I’m sure I’ll have more good work to put on here soon.

Alisha, and what a class act she is!

I met Alisha at a Playboy model search event where I also met several other great models. Elizabeth Leigh Sulivan contacted me for this and I appreciate her setting me up for a fun night of candids. Alisha kept me company while I was shooting with the other girls. She worked for her money by going to the bar to get us a few drinks! We spoke quite a bit and wound up scheduling a shoot that we did last weekend. It was a lengthy shoot with several looks. I got to test out a few different back drops and I believe I found something that works for me, as well as someone I enjoyed doing a trade shoot with. She has a supreme, pin-up look and can make her hair work with whatever she has on. At first glance I thought we did great work together. I hope to do it again.

You can call her Mindelicious, everyone else does!

Three or four years ago I was working with some guys who play some good tunes. Along the way, a girlfriend of one of the guys added me on Myspace. That’s where the story begins.

Mindi and I hung out at the shows exchanged messages on Myspace and she had talked about modeling. As with many models, she had the dream of being in Playboy. That left a lot in the open, getting pictures good enough to submit, getting some experience and dealing with the business aspects of modeling. We got together in an executive hotel room where we managed to get some good images. This shoot took many hours, but it was my fault since I suggested she bring a lot of clothes. As someone interested in fashion, she didn’t have a problem with that at all!

We wound up for the next year or more, meeting up and doing whatever we felt we could do. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the equipment I have now and couldn’t do what I wanted. But we did okay with what we had to work with.

Not long after our last shoot, I began to see how serious she was getting with her modeling. I offered whatever I could as far as advice in hopes it would help her in her endeavors.

So one of my favorite servers had a birthday coming up. I had been thinking for a long time that she would look great in front of the camera. After my return from NC and the weekend after her birthday we met up at the studio for a shoot. I was pleasantly surprised at how good she worked with the camera. We did several looks. I think we both did good with this shoot and look forward to more just like this!
